Traveller’s Guide to Pardubice, A to Z

Tips, Advices & Recommendations

Never drink and drive in the Czech Republic, because no alcohol is allowed whilst driving unlike in the most parts of Europe. Also lights must be lit and your seatbelt fastened all the time.

If you plan your way around in Pardubice, you might use the Google maps or similar Czech webpage, which includes finding companies, shops, restaurants; but is only in Czech, or just buy the city plan in the main station or information centers or newspaper stalls.

For using the public transport, you can either buy a paper schedule or find your way around on the web.

Beware of the thieves, especially in the queues in the supermarkets and in the overcrowded public transport in the rush hour.

Most small shops are open from 9 AM to 5 PM, some fashion-clothing houses from 8 AM to 8 PM, supermarkets 8 AM – 10 PM, or sometimes nonstop.

The beer-pubs and bars have closing time at midnight or 2 AM, but could be longer if there are enough thirsty customers. Some pubs are usually closed on Mondays, and the museums as well.

There is a student tradition in the Czech Republic of walking around the city in masks and funny comstumes and begging people for money for the graduation party. This takes place every year in the late May or in early June, on Friday before the week of high school graduation exams. Giving them a coin is considered to be nice (anything from a penny to a fiver), but walking off isn’t considered to be rude somehow.
