Traveller’s Guide to Pardubice, A to Z

Get around

If you want to look for any kind of transport all around the Czech Republic, look it up here:idos.cz

Public transport

The city provides buses and trolley-buses for the public transport. The tickets can be bought in the ticket machines located at some bus stops, city’s squares, by the shopping centers, in the tobacco stores, etc. Or from the driver for slightly higher price, approximately 20 %. On every bus stop there is a map and a schedule of the lines going through, most of them meet at the main train station. The words „pracovni dny“ stands for workdays and „soboty, nedele a svatky“ means Saturdays, Sundays and National Holidays. The infocenters of the company that manages the public transport are located in Jan Perner Square, close to the main train station, in Jindrisska Street near the Chateau and in Jan Zajic Street. The ticket for a one-way ride costs 12 CZK (0.5 €). If you are planning to go sightseeing around the city, you probably won’t need the public transport much, because the historical center is quite small in comparison to the modern quarters. There is usually no problem with parking in the city, but it is certainly cheaper and probably easier to use public transport than your own or rented car to get around the city. The trolley lines usually go in the center with very short intervals, at least during the day, the buses go in the outskirts, the intervals are usually longer, approximately 10 – 60 minutes.

Taxis

The most used taxi service company is probably Taxi Pospisil, which is available nonstop all around the city. The Taxi Simona is offering to transport you to some historical sites, plus the website has an English part, which makes it more accesible, you can email them at radio@taxisimona.cz in English. Comfort TAXI Pardubice offers a free hot-line +420 800 900 091, but it is free only for calling from a Czech phone or cell number, so you might ask someone to call it for you from a phone booth. Getting a taxi is possible in many ways, you can stop it in the street yourself, or call their phone number, which is not recommended for non-Czech speakers, or you could find it in its permanent parking spot by the Green Gate or at the main train station, or you could order a taxi in a restaurant, which is certainly the easiest way, because you don’t need any phone numbers.
