Traveller’s Guide to Pardubice, A to Z

Entertainment

Clubs

The clubs in Pardubice don’t usually have a webpage, or just a Czech version, so if you want to visit them, you can see the program mostly on the posters or on the door of the club itself. Nonetheless, most of them are open every day and work as a pub, but on the concert day you have to pay the entrance fee of 50 – 200 CZK (2 – 8 €). Girls sometimes have a discount or a free drink. Atomic in Dasicka Street is one of the most popular dance clubs, it is situated in a former anti-nuke bunker from the Communist era. It provides various types of music on its stages, with different DJ or band for each weekend. It also has good bartenders who can mix you any cocktail you shall think about. Zralok in Trida Miru Street (in the center) is more than just a dance club, it is open daily from 11 AM, you can eat there pizza, have a drink mixed by a free-style barkeeper, play virtual football. At night it has not only a DJ playing, but also a special program for each weekend and occasional erotic show. In the rock club Zluty Pes in Ke Koupalisti Street concerts take place almost all the time, however its program is concentrated mostly in the summer with occasional performances of Czech or foreign bands in the rest of the year. But if you are more into jazz, blues or other alternative music styles, you should like the club Ponorka in Jiraskova Street.

Gay/Lesbian Bars

The dance club Diskoklec in Ohrazenicka Steet has more than half of GL parties in its programme, as you can see on their website. You may not understand clearly what type of particular party is it, because the website is only in Czech, but you certainly can recognize the international mark „GL“ on the side of the list and the date.

Theaters

The newly reconstructed East-Bohemian theater in U Divadla Street, originally built in the first decade of 20th century by the design of the architect Antonin Balsanek, offers many classical as well as modern plays on its stage all over the year. In addition to that, it has its summer stage in the Kuneticka Hora castle. The prices of each play may differ from seat to eat, but the standard price is about 100 CZK (4 €) in the theater building and 200 – 300 CZK (8 – 12 €) on the Kuneticka Hora stage. Divadlo 29 in sv. Anezky České Street is also popular, its program can be found on posters around the city.

Cinemas

In the Czech Republic it is normal that new movies (with an exception of movies for children) are shown in the cinema in its original language (which is English most of the time) with Czech subtitles, so if you would like to watch a movie while you are in Pardubice, you can do it in Kino Dukla in Gorkeho Street. The cinema is wheelchair-accessible. Its price range is approximately 60 – 80 CZK (2.5 – 3.5 €) Then there is the American-style multinational cinema CineStar in the Square of the Republic, where you can get popcorn and Coke, but a ticket there costs about 120 – 150 CZK (5 – 6 €) A re-appearing retro-style summer cinemas are getting to be popular again, in Pardubice it is Letni Kino Pernstejn in Tyrsovy sady Street.

Classical Music

The University Choir has regular concerts in its music hall on Cs. Legii Square. In its repertory there are not only classical pieces of music, but also modern songs of all kinds. You can also find interesting to visit the House of Music in Sukova Trida Street.
