The Kuneticka Hora Castle

The castle is perched on the basalt top of the Kunetice Mountain, the only hill in the flat lowland, hence it is the natural dominant of the county. It was built in the 13th century by the Lords of Pernstejn as their country mansion. It was a strong fortress, nevertheless, it was ruined in the Thirty Year’s war, and since then it dilapidated. Three hundred years later, it was restored by the project of famous Slovak architect Dusan Jurkovic and it gained the present Neogothical appearance. Today, you can find there the expositions of hunting, weapons, art gallery, museum of crime, with an exposition of historical dungeon and a torture chamber. It is recommended to visit the castle in summer, when many events take place, such as The Archers‘ Day, on which the visitors can try out their archery skills and Kuneticka Hora for Children, a festival of team sports, games and practical abilities. Opening hours: May – August daily except Monday 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM, April and September 10 AM – 4 PM on weekends.

Steamship Arnost

A small tourist steamer, named after famous mediaval bishop Arnost of Pardubice, sails by the banks of the Elbe river, as a mobile restaurant. The duration of the voyage and the prices are various for each of the city’s wharfs, but usually the trip takes about two hours, with price around 100 – 150 CZK (4 – 6 €). The ship sails every day between 15th April and 1st October. Sometimes, there are concerts or other special events on the ship, which have its own program and prices, otherwise, it goes according to the schedule. The ship can be rented for private parties.

Hradek u Nechanic

It’s a vast Windsor Style chateau, former summerhouse of Harrach courtship, built in 19th century, as a copy of Crewe Hall in Cheshire County, Great Britain. The interiors are practically a collection of the finest European furniture of that time, there are many collections of various objets d’art, such as paintings, weapons, cut glass, utensils made of ceramics and brass imported from Venice. Moreover, there is a 9-hole golf pitch in the local park. The chateau is in the village Hradek. Opening hours: TU - SU 10 - 12 AM, 13 - 16 PM. The expositon is open From March to October, with a Christmas exception in December, with opening hours 9 AM – 16 PM.

Anniversary of the Battle near Hradec Kralove

Austro – Prussian War (also called the Seven Weeks War, or the German Civil War), that took place mostly in the Czech kingdom, culminated near Hradec Kralove, the crucial battle was fought on the city outskirts at the hill Chlum on July 3. Today it is commemorated by the restoration of the battle in the period military costumes, military bands performances, fencing exhibitions by historical military units and pietary memorial campaigns as a tribute to the 50,000 soldiers killed in the battle.

Bohdaneč Spa

8 kms away | A town not very far from the ciy of Pardubice is a well-known spa fucused on skeletal treatment by water, natural bog mud, etc. For admirers of architecture there is a Rennaissance town hall, the Spa complex was designed by the cubist architect Josef Gocar.
